Out of my rings what do I do?

Mountaingear emailed me to say they are out of the descender rings but have these http://www.mountaingear.com/pages/pr...tem/111808/N/0 and will give me 10% off for the trouble. Will these work?

Why not just buy them from someplace like this:
    http://www.mtntools.com/cat/rclimb/b...rappelring.htm
They also sell CAMP USA biners:

It says they are rated at 20 Kn, so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't.

Or, you could get buckles from someone who had to buy extra, Or OnRope might sell you just two, maybe. Or you might have to buy 5. That's if you thought buckles would make a good sub for rings.

You can always buy from REI or direct from SMC.

    Rockstar,

I'll bring a couple of the "other" buckles for you to borrow this weekend - you can see if you like them. I'm bringing the Snow Peak set, too.

REI no longer carries the SMC rings. The good thing about Mountain Gear is that they didn't charge shipping.

SMC charges UPS shipping rates - $20 for my test order of 20 rings (what can I say, I buys a lot at one time). They are also over $3/each for the rings.

Mountain Tools is only $2.50/each for the rings and charges $10 shipping for East of the Mississippi.

The 'other' rings suggested by Mountain Gear are 3 times heavier than the SMC rings.

That is my quick research on the subject. I need to order some more rings myself, so that is what prompted the search. I may ask Mountain Gear when they will have the SMC rings back in stock.

THANK YOU! Looking fwd to it!

As Shadowmoss said, the shipping was/is free b/cI ordered enough. PLUS the small discount. I appreciate them being nice. I will try the buckles and if they work I might twist Todds arm and put money in his other hand for them.

Thanks all! Looking fwd to seeing everyone tomorrow! Remember to wear your b-day suits! Just k-ding! No really, DONT! *waives arms!*
