You've got one happy scout that gets aweful scrappy when anyone gets near your old hammock to deal with. It could get aweful messy!

Is that the one that will integrate an evaporative cooling system for the deep south summer?

I can take a wal-mart sleeping bag with a cheap coil separating zipper and zip it to itself or zip it to another bag with no problem. What makes the bugnet/top-cover application different?
A coil zipper? Not a tooth zipper. The manufacturer told us we would have trouble with it because when the coil is cut to place "the pin and box", it is unique, and no two zippers are cut identically, therefore they may not line up and zip properly. That's what he's telling me but maybe the "proof is in the pudding" and should actually try it. I sure would hate to sell something that doesn't work or work well.

He did say that tooth zippers would work, but I like a coil zipper for going around corners and for stress issues.

There is definitely more work to be done before we commit to this project, if it can be done at all.

Oh! I see what he means. The pin and box are the little doohickeys at the bottom of a separating zipper. If I take ZipperA, cut it to 6' long, then put on the pin and box, the two sides will mate perfectly. If I take ZipperB, cut it to 6' long, then put on the pin and box, the two sides of that zipper will also mate perfectly. But if I take the left side of ZipperA and right side of ZipperB and try to zip them together, it might be perfect, or it might suck a little bit depending on the exact distance between the peak of the last coil and the pin (or box). That's why cheap sleaping bags are a pain to zip together. If the pin and box aren't both exactly the same distance from the first coil, it binds slightly.

So, the key to happiness is figuring out how to make sure that your cut is always exactly the same realtive to the coil... OR don't make it separating! Make the netting attached at one end and the top cover attached at the other end and it'll zip fine every time. The only slightly painful bit will be threading the zipper pull onto the second end, but that's not that hard.
