    Upcoming SHT weekend

I'm planning on hiking a portion of the SHT on Friday, May 7 returning Sunday May 9, 2010. At the moment, it will be a solo trip but I'm open to connecting with some others. The choice of trail segment is still a bit fluid ATM.

My "plan" is to drive from the Twin Cities to the SHT on Friday morning, arriving at the trailhead around 1 or 2pm. Hike to a campsite (max 4 hour travel, more likely 3 hours). Saturday would be a bit longer hike, but with the goal of being back at the car by mid-day on Sunday. I'm NOT a high mileage hiker, so 10-11 miles max for Saturday.

If interested, post here or PM me.

I'm going to have to cancel this trip. As things have developed, my daughter is having significant arthroscopic knee surgery in Colorado so I'll be driving from Minnesota to Crested Butte to provide some parental post-surgery TLC.

'Tis a far distance! Aye! I'm planning to make Minneapolis to Denver day 1, Denver to Crested Butte on Day 2. 'Bout 13 hours from Minneapolis to Denver, I'm figuring. That's the hard/long part.

Thanks, CB! She's pretty tough, but knee surgery has her spooked. I'll post more once we know what's what.

The surgical agenda at the moment is "open ended" and contingent based on what the surgeon finds once she gets the camera inside. The lack of certainty is hard for us all to take, though it's not life-threatening.

She is a serious athlete, so fixing a blown-out knee is important even if the recuperation/recovery period is long.

Good luck to your daughter beep and drive safely. At least it's a pretty drive. The one piece of advice to her we'd give (my wife being an orthopedic surgical assistant prior to going back to NP school) is make sure she does her post-op stretching and exercises even if painful. Having to go back to the OR for joint manipulation under anesthesia (the medical speak for "let's go bust up all that scar tissue") is painful and a rehabilitative setback, especially for someone who is used to being very active. Better to take the pain the first time around than to have to do it again.
