    blackbird and superfly?

I'm looking into changing to hammocks, but first, I need 2 things. number one is money. I should get some when I sell my old bivy. Unfortunately, I can't sell it here until I get 11 more posts. So, the second is that I need a good hammock/tarp combo. So do you think the Blackbird and Superfly is/are good and/or better than others?

check out this thread, and that is just since last july! Every comment is going to say that the blackbird is super comfy (which it is) and then you will be asked what kind of camping are you doing: car camping, backpacking, 3 season, 4 season because that will alter what you get for a tarp

well, I am planning on doing a back-to-back ECT thru, so, I need a good, reliable, warm or cool, comfortable, no-hassle setup, so you could say backpacking.

Welcome David. There's no doubt that the WBBB and the WBSF are a good combination., There are other good combo's as well. Allot of this gets subjective and about your needs or what you want.. Once you dive into the area of good quality gear then its all about personal choices. The WBBB is one of the best hammocks out there. Brandon also makes great tarps, UQ's, TQ's etc. There are other good tarps out there and a number of cottage folks who make great gear, quilts etc. If your specifically attracted to the WBBB+SF i don't think you'll be disappointed. People around here love their BB's and a great tarp is a great tarp.

You're talking about a 7600 mile yoyo? You better learn to sew your own stuff as you're going to need to be repairing it on the go at some point. I had plenty of gear last me on the AT last year that I still use, but that's almost 4 times the distance and you will be wearing things out at some point.

    I own both.

Would I carry them on a through-hike of the ECT or PCT? I honestly do not think I would. I would want something lighter, regardless of comfort. As they say around here at HF: "The blackbird is the cadillac of hammocks" (up for argument obviously)... but the question has to be asked... if I'm going to be carrying that, for a through-hike of the longest trails out there, do I want to carry a cadillac or a minicooper?"

That said, the WB gear is totally awesome. Just do not think I would take such extravagant gear on a through-hike.

like I said, I am new to hammocking... if you think that's the cadillac, then what would be more of a comfortable mini-cooper (has to fit 6' 1" +)

Sorry, but I am not going to recommend ANY hammock if you are "new to hammocking".

Why would you even remotely consider doing a through-hike with gear you have not thoroughly tested and know you are 100% comfortable with?

I would recommend you try to hook up with some other hammockers at a hang, and beg of them to let you try their hammock for an hour or so.... than you go buy a couple that you feel you like the most, than you spend as much time in it as you can, than-and-only-than, do you even REMOTELY considering putting it into the "through-hike bag".

I tend to think the other way, I would still go with a BB for a long trip, better to be the most comfortable possible and carry a couple more oz. then to be uncomfortable at all. Heck that is what Hammocking at all is about for me, more comfort. But ymmv

hmm... let's weih my options here... options:
    1. go on a thru-hike with a bivy sack that is way too hot in the summer that I only fit in by 3/4 of an inch.
2, buy up a random hammock and hope it works well enough,
or 3. ask if this hammock is comfortable and what tarp I should get...
