Need some Vermont hanging advice

Helllooo all Vermont hangers!

My Fiancee and I will be taking care of some of our wedding planning duties in the Stowe Vermont area and wanted some advice for hanging.

We're considering staying at Smugglers' Notch State Park and wanted to know the scoop (is this place hang friendly?) Can you suggest some other areas to hang?


Also - please feel free to chime in on hangs north of there as well since we will be doing some hanging on our honeymoon as well (planning on driving up to Canada and then across to Niagara, then south through NY back to NJ - doing lots of camping and hanging along the way!

Sorry that no one responded earlier. I'm not even sure if your trip has come and gone yet.

Sterling Pond: You can drive up 108 to Smugglers Notch and hike up either the Elephant Head Trail(also the Long Trail) (Trail: 2.3 miles) or the Sterling Pond Trail (This trail head is 1.8 miles North of the Elephant Head/Long Trail crossing) (Trail: 1.1 miles) to get to Sterling Pond. There are areas where you could hand around there and also take some views in while sitting in a lift chair if you wish. The mountain is also shared with Smugglers Notch Ski resort, so there is a lodge on the near the pond which you can shelter in if needed, the layout of the shelter is open so you maybe able to even hang off the beams if you need to if it's really cold or you catch a really bad storm.

Howdy Niloc!

Thanks much for the advice. We wound up finding a drive-in camp site that let us spend the night even though they were closed (season didn't open for another couple days).

On a side note, we just got back from an unrelated Vermont trip where we spent two nights in Maidstone State Park which was pretty nice car camping (got pretty windy off the lake but a nice park!)
