how to add a Noseeum net to a hammock

I have made a gathered end hammock and I want to put a net on it. Are there any tips, tricks or cautions that I should be a wear of? Should I just cut out a rectangle of net and sew it to the edges and then re-gather and whip the ends net and all? adding a zipper to one side of course.

    Have you seen this? http://www.imrisk.com/hammock/ultraquarterweight.htm

Definitely has the allure of being simple.

Get in or have someone lay in it, then pin in at least a few places before you sew. Otherwise, the net may bunch up or be on a different bias than you want.

A rectangle shaped piece will leave excess netting at the head and foot ends.
You'll need to cut it more in a diamond shape. Actual size and shape is dependant on total length of hammock, length of hammock ridgeline, and width of hammock material.

Other options are a sock or tube, with drawstrings at each end. Or a large panel of netting thats lays loosely on the hammock ridgeline, as suggested above.

Personal preference, stay away from velcro as an attachment option, it tends to snag the netting and causes holes over time, in my experience.

Removable netting gives you the option of leaving the netting at home in non-buggy conditions, or seasons.

I put my pad and several sleeping bags in my hammock to open it up. I pinned, cut and sewed one side first (the side with the footbox and shelf). I then put the pad and sleeping bags back in the hammock and pinned, cut and sewed (the entrance side with the zipper). For me, it worked out perfectly. Laying in the hammock, there is no bunching up and very little changes how the bug netting lays.

I use a whoopie sling for my ridge line.

    Good luck.
