    Searching

Is there a way to only show threads/posts that contain both words?

For example I was looking for a thread/post that would let me know on where to buy Insultex. I can search for "buy insultex" or "source insultex", but it just doesnt seem to be specific enough. Putting quotes around the search doesn't seem to help, or I am just missing something all together.

I typed "source insultex" (without the quotes) in Advanced Search (an option in the Search menu) and it searched and highlighted BOTH terms for me. It said "buy" was too short a term to search for. Hope this helps. I don't know where to buy insultex but good luck! Happy hangin. Francesca

Ah, I see the problem. The advanced search gives you posts with both terms in it first, but then includes posts with either term. Hmmm---I'm thinking...

I've noticed that most forum software seems to make searching more difficult that it should be (ignoring common terms, imposing term length limits, time limits, &c.). As long as the forum is accessible to Google, one can search using Goggle's "site search" like so:

    +this +that site:hammockforums.net

The plus symbols mean that those terms are required.

Gotta love that Boolean logic! Thanks for the tip, Albert Skye!

I've seen our posts show up in a google search only a few minutes after they're posted...I'd call that accessible!

I keep a Firefox bookmark with "site:hammockforums.net" already there. I just add the terms I'm searching for and hit return. (Haven't used + signs much, but will in the future. Thanks, Albert.)

    More options: http://www.google.com/advanced_search

Essentially, Google returns results for all terms; however, "Google employs synonyms automatically" which is probably the reason that some results do not include all terms. Of course, Google will never tell us how it defines "synonyms" and why would one trust their answer anyway?

It never ceases to amaze me that we tolerate a closed (proprietary) index to the WWW. We may never know what it does not show...
