Has anyone done a comparison between the Kelty noah 12 and the GG tarp? and on that note to rigidpsycho: which of those two are better quality? Also any opinions on the other tarps?
Seeing Kelty's Noah 12 once is what made me decide on the GG 12. My GG 12 is camo from 2007, I know for awhile the camo was sold out... I've loved mine and I don't mind the weight a bit. My groundling friends always cook, hangout, setup/breakdown their tents under it when it rains. It's also just big enough to hang two under it.

That's my shameless endorsement for what its worth

I'm coming in late to this, so if it's been covered and I missed it, forgive me.

If you're looking for something dedicated to cooking - I would suggest using a flame-resistant tarp material rather than silnylon. Anything saturated with silicone, by nature of the silicone, cannot be flame-resistant.

Just a thought. (And this coming from the guy that markets Silnylon tarps)

I also have the Guide Gear tarp, but I prefer the Chinook 12' x 9' 6" tarp. Both are good tarps, but I think the Chinook pitches more easily.

I have a GG camo 9x9, and I really like it. But the last trip, the much lighter JRB 8x8 won out.

You can't go wrong with GG Tarp. I used one the last year over a dozen times and it has been great. I bought two more before I wrote this post. Get some light weight stakes, bungee cords, and light weight thin plastic rope, or parachord and you've got the least cost tied up in plenty of coverage. Buy now. They are about $20 for the 12 X 12 white.
