Should be here this week or so. I won't use it for hiking. I have my MarPat Pittsburgh Kilt (unfortunately no longer in business) for that. It's the same cotton rip-stop camies are made from. It also has two slash pockets like pants and an under-apron pocket. Really, a super functional kilt.
Nice...but do you have to ride your MTB sidesaddle with that kilt on?

No, but the top tube can be cold at times

Riding kilted is not something I've been interested in trying though. Mainly because I prefer lycra cycling shorts when riding, but secondly all the loose fabric would get in the way or be damaged by the wheel, and 3rd the general image is not one I want to portray

In general it would be contrary to my Form-Follows-Function principles.

    Question to the kilted veterans:

How much does the sizing of a kilt change with the change in the wearer's weight? I have picked up about 20lbs in the last 10months due to unemployment and plan to lose it all again, but it may take a bit. While I would like to get a kilt in the near future, I don't want to buy one that won't fit me after shedding the pounds.

My wife keeps trying to get me to wear a kilt... I don't get it, she says she thinks I'd look "sexy". I think she's off her rocker!

I think it's the confidence in men who wear kilts that stands out as sexy to women.

I've not once had a negative reaction to my various kilts in the last decade. But plenty of folks, especially women, have been very approving.

If it weren't for all the brush, briars, and ticks on southeastern trails, I'd hike in one pretty much all the time.

I hike in a skirt and love it! As for the sexiness of a kilt? BP said it. Its not the kilt thats sexy but the sureness of the man wearing it. Its kind of how you carry yourself. It shows in your body language. Kind of like the difference in wearing shorts and a t-shirt or a pin stripe suit... you just present yourself a bit differently and that confidence shows!

I don't have vast experience but I have had weight vary by almost 20 lbs, and I have a couple of different kilts I wear. For the kilts there's more "give" than in a pair of trousers where most gradations are by 2" at the waist. A kilt is wrap after all. My dress kilt has a hook attachment at the waist that could be moved to tighten or loosen if waist changes warranted. My hiking kilt has a snap and a belt, the belt can tighten up a loose fit.

Forget kilts and hammocks ... try a kilt on a unicycle, now that is a confident man.......
OK, tried once and the kilt was in my spokes and I was on the ground with my kilt over my head and mooning the sky and a Mom with a stroller walked by ... tsk'ed and gave a baby wipe.

Real kilts come with adjustable belts (three in fact) that allow quite a bit of room for adjustment. I have gained a few inches around the waist and am able to wear my kilt of about ten years now.

Is a utilikilt or the mountain hardwear one considered a "real" kilt? Of not, does anyone have any experience of its adjustability?
