North Face Dolomite as entry level quilt?

I've been thinking about moving towards a quilt for sleeping in my hammock, but am a bit turned off by the high prices...

I came across this bag yesterday, which seems like it might be a good way to get my feet wet in the top-quilt game, and wondered if any of you had heard anything about it, or had actual experience with the bag...

    North Face Dolomite

    Pros
It's made by North Face, weighs 3 lbs and 10 oz, is good down to 20F, and can be had for $80 shipped

    Cons
It's probably bulky, may be bigger than I need, won't have a footbox...

I'd love to hear your thoughts on my idea, even if they point out that I'm dumb...

It's still a sleeping bag and not a TQ, so it will be much wider (and hence heavier) than you need. Can you DIY? Just cut off a foot or so from each side b/c you'll want to remove the zippers anyway, then sew in a footbox. You can probably get it to ~2.5 lbs that way.

That sounds like a cool plan/project, and should save some serious weight from the base-weight of the bag...

    Thanks!

Thanks for the thought, but yeah, I need a 20F bag...I was camping last weekend, and stretched my mss green bag's ability to the breaking point on nights that were 22, 29, and 20 degrees...

The Dolomite is a solid synthetic bag for the money. I have used it several times down to near freezing, and was impressed. I was even comfortable without a pad (but with expedition wt. thermals). Not a bad option if I second guess dragging the quilts out in wet weather.

Those are cons in my book. TNF has not been a quality gear maker for many years, has awful customer service and does not stand behind their warranties... and 3.10 lbs. is WAYYYYYY heavy to me.
