LOL!!! Obession... Thats why I became a designer...

But at least I'm designing stuff... even if its not the stuff my employer thinks I'm designing...

FWIW, I think the wider buckle with the webbing on the top and rope on the bottom will be messy to use and jam prone as the line pulls the buckle out of alignment with the webbing. You'll tend to get jams and things, it happens even when you run webbing the wrong size in a buckle without anything else distorting it .... Might be fine for proof of concept but I think Turk's will work better.

I've been looking more at the sailing catalog and I'm going to see if I can chase down one of these. They're light and should be sturdy and quick to use.

As well as being a permanently attached solution like the latest ones we've talked of...

well I might be justly accused of being a pot calling the kettle black.

But when I talk to myself I normally don't do it so publicly

If you can't find them at a a sailing shop you may be able to get them through a theatrical sound & light shop. We use them all the time for tidying up cables.

If it were stronger the figure 9 biner could be used.
The biner would be used to hook into hugger loops and the nine end would be used to adjust.

Ya ..... Here we are almost 30 pages later!! And what one of us REALLY!!!!
R...E....A...L...L...Y needs to do, is go out and buy one of the new
stupid Figure-9 biners. Perhaps it is much like the original and capable
far beyond its listed capacity. We haven't proven that it can't do the job yet.
Warbonnets crazy stunts yielding some shocking results.

I vote ... not me ..... since I live a couple hundred miles from the closest source and already
made that trip to buy regular Fig 9's a few weeks ago.

So ya... someone please go buy a large Fig-9 biner and hang from it
and report to us. Because it really does seem like the most simple
    gizmo to modify and use.

I am still going to build my Fig-T, but I didn't make it to the metal
    supermarket before closing today
Now I have to try and figure out where I can get 1/4" plate on
    a saturday morning.

    I'd buy one if I saw it locally...still haven't.
Well crap on not getting th metal....I was looking forward to a report....
I might play around with something similar.
Why do you have three slots in your design? couldnt' you get away with just two??
Also, I looked at the cinch buckle from onrope1 and that thing is made out of 1/8" material. The 3/16" looks super thick next to it.

The reason I incorporated the third eye for the buckle is to
avoid the need for any additional safety hitch on the webbing.
Lots of people report slippage with 2-eye buckle systems. A third
eye gives me more contact points and allows me to finish the
cinch with the webbing passing behind the device much like the
lock grip achieved with warbonnets hitch on the rope side.

When I was first looking at buying the panda hammock I found
their aftermarket suspension system to use a 3-eye buckle system
of much the same idea and for the same reasons.

I will still try and come up with some metal tomorrow so as not to
hold up progress on the idea.

Turk I will try to call REI in Philly. If they have it I should be able to get some Sunday or Monday at the latest. At least they should have the reg large 9s. The more I think about your buckle/anchor the more I like it. Are you planning on putting a 90 degree bend so the anchor so it sticks straight out from the tree? They do make aluminium corner angle, that way you don't have to put the stress on the peice bending it. Good luck finding it though.

I was at Costco today and there was an item that was used to hold one of their massive shelves together that looked very much like your design. I looked at it for a couple minutes before realizing I need to think about things other than hammock hardware.
