    Hi
    Thanks for the nice words.
I built this basically on the floor of my drive way, I only have a vice, a drill and a 4 in grinder but I am happy with how it works, I am sure some of you could make a much nicer looking plate.

All of the holes are drilled for you and the rating is more than you will need.

If you are using only rope then the one in the middle will work nicely. The heaviest of the bunch at 0.56 oz. It also has the highest ratings at 2700 lbs working load and 4500 lbs breaking load. You can either splice an eye around this deadeye or hitch to the hole.

My engineer girlfriend says that you can get up to a 5 to 1 mechanical advantage for what you want depending on how you rig the thing.

Of course they are going to be considerably more expensive than a nickel or 50p piece, but a lot stronger too.
Thanks for the link. Interesting gadgets, although as you point out, a bit pricey (but only half the cost of those sailing things for making a lark's head that were under discussion a while ago).

It's a mighty good thing that my gear compulsions run to hiking stuff rather than sailing stuff. I'd go broke faster otherwise.

Here's what I'm using with line... Its not figure 9 or derivative... its

Rings... no slip with the backup half hitch on a bight and just a tail to pull to undo... Even with TWO people in the hammock... Works with spectra rope as well as nylon...

Of course its a little heavier than the things we've been playing with, but still really simple to work with.

Gunn with all the loops and turns, what makes it better to use your dog bone than just a the Hennessey rap. Once you loop it through the first hole the second time doesn't the friction on the cord make it hard to tighten the hammock?

Rapt that looks awsome but I can't tell how the spectra (the thicker rope) it wrapped. Do you have a better picture showing it?
