I had always thrown mine into the back of my pack which was fine but I get sort of impatient when lines were tangled and I like to be all set up and relaxing before any of the tents can set up so that I can bask in their envy... anyway, I just made some mesh snakeskins the other day and I think I'll give them a try this weekend with Tee-dee's tarp attachment method. So um, thanks in advance guys for being such an open source for your creative solutions and opinions.

Skins on mine! Like Shug and other's have said ready and easy to deploy when needed! Mine is a MC Deluxe and when in the skins is not alot of bulk at all, it fit's in one side pocket in my pack along with my stake bag (I also have room for other things if needed in the same pocket)!

I tried this and it worked like a charm...the DIY skins (size before sewing - 12'x1' piece of sil) for my 12x10 allow the tarp to be loose, then fold over the skins and wrap your suspension around the outside to keep the folds together. Same size as a stuffsack but pliable in the pack

I voted for "regular stuff sack" which I keep in an outside pocket of my backpack. If it's raining, I want to be able to put up the tarp first, before I have to open the backpack. And, if it has rained during the night, or collected condensation, I don't want to put it back inside my backpack.

HOWEVER, after having read this thread, I now see the usefulness of snakeskins. I'm a relative newcomer to hammocking and the idea of having the tarp up, but not deployed, still contained nicely in the snakeskins, never occurred to me ... DUH!

Thanks once again for an educational moment!

Note to self: Measure rolled tarp, order nano-see-um mesh from Thru-hiker, crank up the sewing machine ...

A very useful idea for DIY skins that I have used and adapted to a number of sized tarps came from HeadChange4U. Can be found here: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=1408

I have two tarps...one in stuff sack (regular) and one in snake skins. I couldn't vote twice.

Fold it up and stick it in an outer mesh pocket...Easy... less than a minute to do and no extra weight... and always ready for a quick trail stop in bad weather.

I just sold one of those mesh snake skins.
