    seeking for constructions review

    Hi all!
I wanted to have a wider look at what is possible in hammock world. The different hammock solutions is what is on my mind, mostly comparing those combining tarp with hammock into one piece (in Poland we have really unpredictable weather, so taking a tarp is mandatory in hikes longer than 3-4 days). I wanted to see if it would be good to make such thing, but thats me.

Bridge hammocks, gathered end and HH were described throughly, but thats all I was able to find.
I've seen the spreadsheet, but there is no construction information there, just bare details.
Obviously I write this post, because I was unable to find such thing. No obvious guide through different hammocks with pictures, characteristics, comparisons, general usage information.
Am I missing some really important introductory hammocks construction review article? Is there such review/comparison of features somewhere?

There's not really an overview article, mostly because the products have changed so much over the last 3 years or so.

If you simply go through the list of manufacturers one by one, on the main forum index, it will give you a good idea of what styles are made.

To my knowlege, there aren't many 'good' attempts at combining a tarp with the hammock body itself. It tends to be more versatile (and appealing to a larger number of people) to mix/match the tarp used to the conditions and the desire of the occupant.

The only hammock tarp combo I know of is the old military ones. I never saw one in person though. The idea has merit as way to shed a little weight. You coul have just a 4 inch strip of bugnet between the hammock and tarp. My concern would always be making the hammock wet when it is put away.

Having used that older style of military hammock as a kid I will go ahead and say they get real hot quickly and tend to be on the lower end comfort wise (no diagonal lay).

    Thanks
I guess I have to learn the harder way...
My biggest concern (apart from browsing through dozens of pages) is that the photos on the producer's side can be not as informative as I wish, but I guess if I would be interested in any particular design I can just search the forums or ask producer directly.

    Cheers,
    Luke

I'll back up this claim. I had one as a youngster, and while a bit better than the ground, they aren't very well venilated, they are stuffy, and not nearly as comfy as the more modern designs. In fact they aren't even as easy to setup as most modern options. Also the stability leaves a lot to be desired.

I spent many a night reading and reviewing various forumns and websites.

There are a lot of videos on you-tube now as well.

I learned a lot that was useful on my first hang in the woods.
