    kelty triptease diameter

Do any of you know the diameter of the Kelly Triptease Lightline? Also, an old review said it had a problem stretching at night and that the spectra snuck through to the outside when the strain was released. Any experience out there with this product?

It is about 1/16". I would not want to pull my tarp tight enough to see if this stuff stretches. I think I read the same review on one of the backpacking test sites. The guy assumed all the stretch come from the cord and not from the tarp? I use this with the JRB tarp tensioners and have not had a problem yet. Not sure about the spectra coming out of the cover. Even new you can see spectra cord thru parts of the cover.

    Thanks HANGnOUT.

I'm redoing guylines on my tent and HH. I want to use linelocs that Henry Shire uses on his tents to expedite adjustments. The Linelocs require 2.5 to 3 MM cords. 1/16 = slightly less than 2 mm and 1/8 = a tad more than 3 MM. Do you have any means of determining if the cords are slightly larger than 1/16 inch? I can get by with one slightly larger than 3MM but anything smaller than 2.5 MM will slip with very little strain.

We probably did read the same review. The man was trying to use the line for his tarp. I'd pretty well decided to go with the product if the size fits because I should not have anywhere near the stress in my use as did he.

They are about .070 which is less than 2mm. I read the review below that shows the Shire tent comes with this line though

Where did you find that style of tensioner?

Thanks for the info. I have an early squall and only the front guy line had the lineloc. I saw the later model tents with them on all guylines and contacted H. Shire about getting some. He droped them in the mail to me at no charge. He is a good person to deal with and he makes a quality product.

As to where you might get them, here is a good link http://www.questoutfitters.com/tent_poles.htm . The linelocs are the last item on the page so keep scrolling down. I've delt with these people and found them to be really responsive.

I double checked the one line having a lineloc and found it to be 2 mm. So something less than 2.5 mm apparently does work. The review convinced me to go ahead and buy the triptease cords. I can always use it and I cannot say that about all the gear I've bought trying to "improve" bought gear.

    Thanks again.

A couple of these on the tarp ridgeline and JRB micro biners on the tree end and you have a tarp version of the ring/buckle system. Maybe we can get thousands of hits like the ring/buckle/webbing thread!
