    Hammock Ridgelines

So I'm wanting to try out a ridgeline because I like the concept of always having the same 'sag' in my hammock no matter where I hang it. But what I don't get is how to attach it to my hammock. Do you have any ideas? Maybe someone can lead me to a thread or video that explains the installation of the ridgeline. Thanks.

I just tied mine into the loop of cord that keeps the ends gathered- if you have a carabiner doing that job, you could clip right into that. for those with whipped ends, try a larks head at one or both ends, on top of the whippage cord.

Or for the whoopies that you made just slip a loop of line over each of them and slide it to the base of the sling where it attaches to the hammock. That's all I have done in this photo of my adjustable ridge line.

One way is to use klemheist knots on your suspension lines, then larkshead a ridgeline on one of them and tie it off to the other. There are many ways to do it.

I like the idea of making an adjustable ridgeline similar to my whoopies. I'm going to try this, thanks!

Just move the bury out from the fixed eye a few feet, you don't need the entire thing to adjust just 30(if you want a lot of range) or so inches on the far end.

For a whoopie RL, start with 13' of line. Splice a 2" fixed eye on one end.

Measure from the end of the fixed eye down the line 76". Make another mark at 84". Insert splicing tool at 76 mark and out at 84 mark. Pull the tail in the bury and the backsplice the end.

This will give you an adjustable RL with a range of roughly 82" to 116", give or take.

Also.. for attachment, simply undo how your suspenion attaches to your hammock and place one of the free ends of your suspension through the fixed eye of the ASR on one end of your hammock and through the adjustable eye on the other end of your hammock. Then re-secure your suspension.

Can you show me how to splice a fixed eye?

samson has some good instructions here:

If you're dealing with amsteel and the like, I believe you want instruction for class II rope. Zing it and the like are made from the same dynema I think, so the instructions are the same, right?
