MedicineMan. What brand-colors are your grey tarps considered. In the middle pic thats further away they don't seem to be reflecting or whatever any colors from the surrounding. I read that up or down hill thread. Around here you have to take in account thermal drafts going up or down hill that changes. Usually up in mourning when warming up and down in the evening when cooling. Then the wind currents and drafts swirl around everywhere in these ravines. Makes it a pain to hunt critters.

which shows that distance is also key in the stealth....and i guess you could have taken deadfall, or bent some branches to further diffuse your location.

Ha! Yes, that can happen if you pitch your hammock at a perfect horizontal

My hammock is actually right behind that ponderosa and a little to the left. When I set everything up, it was pitch dark. I thought I had found a site well away from the trail, only to wake up and see this old jeep trail meandering a mere 20 feet from my site. Thankfully, I was all packed up and out before anyone came nearby.

Warbonnet's tarp color is stated as "slate/olive grey(dark grey with a slight green tint). This color makes for a very stealthy shelter in most forestenviroments" I believe that is one of the colors I want to try for a tarp or two. In the pic from the WB site that is posted for size comparison, the tarps are different colors. I'm presuming done for contrast in the pic. Which of the three tarps in the pic would be this slate /olive grey ? They all look good but I like the bottom one better. Now my question is has anyone used the medium grey 2nds silnylon from OWF. What shade is it and is it close to any of the colors from WB ? Do you have a pic of OWF's medium grey ?

the bottom one is the slate grey. I use it and find it to be real low profile. Especially in the boulder and rock fields near the PA sections of the AT.

Hope I'm allowed to use pics from the gallery that I looked thru. Here are some colors that I liked. The solids need a little DIY camo job on them. Its another thing if I can find them to buy.

This is the kind of situation where DIY could be very effective. If you are going to customize the tarp after you get it, perhaps it would make sense to customize it while you make it. Lots of fabric choices are available and with "make your own sil" the spectrum becomes even wider.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
