    Winter camper from Sept-Iles, Quebec!

    Hi everyone,

(My native language is french so if I do mistake it's not volunteer)

I don't already have an Hammock, but I'm doing a lot of backcountry camping with my friends in north-east of Quebec province. I do this all year round and I'm happy to push my limits of endurance in coldness. The coldest night I went was -43C with steady 90 kmh wind. (-89C with wind chill)

I'm already equipped with some nice gear like a NorthWind tent from MEC, Downmat 9 DLX mattress from Exped, CWM sleeping bag from Marmot (-40C), Nova stove from Optimus, Peak one stove from Coleman, 2 candle lights, an homemade pulk, etc...

I'm here to ask some questions about cold environnement to the hammock community before buying any gear related to hammocks. I was looking for hennessy hammocks by the way,. But I'm not sure if it's a good move.

I am specially looking to lower the weight of my gear like my tent. (13 pds with floor tarp)

Thank you very much for the future answer in your nice forum!

    siik

    Hi siik,

    First welcome to the forum

Im born and raised in Quebec City.. (Lévis) and I do a lot of wilderness survival and camping trip.. me and my brother choose a Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7 DL .. all I can say is this past weekends outside the Mauricie National Park.. we were really toasty at night with not much isolation.. my brother used his blue foam.. i went for a Canadian Tire picnic blanket and we didnt had any problem.

When we were getting a lot of cold wind under the hammock at -11C in February .. I decided to buy the ultimate isolation and finally stop freezing my behind.. an UQ.

all I can say is after the hammock itself and a tarp over your head.. I would buy an underquilt without any hesitation (I choosed a Crowsnest 3/4 and can't wait to get it.. and finally drop this blue foam isolation).

Welcome to the forum. As you'll soon find out there are many small cottage industry folks who supply Hammocks, UQ,TQ, Tarps etc AND they can custom make what you would like for the very cold nights. Welcome to the Hammock world.
