    Linville Gorge, NC, June 5 & 6, 2010

Regretfully, I had to bow out of _Tinker_'s Gorge trip. I was so looking forward to that trip, with good friends that I've made over the past year and a half! Anyway, Ken reminded me that the Gorge is always open... so I thought I would go ahead and schedule another hike!

I have always wanted to see what I call the the jigsaw puzzle, where the Linville River winds by the end of Brushy Ridge. I'm hoping that Ken and Hawk-eye are available, and can suggest the best route. Perhaps Pine Gap Trail down and out via Conley Cove? If that's too ambitious, we could exit at Wisemans.

This will be a single night out, with an early Saturday morning departure.

    Mac,

did you know that the past 2 years the peak of rhodedendrum bloom for those mountain *not lower* rhodedendrums at rhodedendrum gap, mount rogers was jun 10....

Not saying you should change your mind but this could be one of those unique opportunities for another area.....the gorge isn't going to change that weekend as much if you know what I mean.

Just a suggestion before you get too committed.

Thanks, Cooldays! I've got me heart set on a Gorge trip.

But since the peak of the Mt Rogers Rhododendron bloom is June 10, you can do both, right?

The LGT might be rough, but the only real uphill climb is to get out. We could come out at Wiseman's instead of going all the way to Conley.

Also, I really don't have to keep it to a single overnight. I would like to hang Friday night as well.

Keep me posted if this is still a "go". I've got some settling to do with that gorge! Now that I have a clue about the layout, it might be a bit simpler yet still not easy.

It's still a go... I'd like to go in at Pine Bluff, visit Babel Tower, turn south and come out... we could put a car at each possible outlet (Wiseman's, Conley, Spence).

Can't come "out" at Wiseman's Mac. No trail into the gorge there. You could come out Babel, Conley or Spence. It is quite far on the LGT from Babel to Spence or Conley. But that would depend on how far you hike Friday and where you camp.

Wish I could come up for at least a dayhike on Friday, but I'll be working.

After thinking about it, I've changed my mind about where to hike. I think I'd like to do the length of the eastern ridge... anybody have a thought about that?

From where to where? You can hike it but you'd most likely have to hike all the connector trails from Sitting Bear to Spence unless you hike the road. Those are a bit difficult to follow unless you're familiar with it.

Depending on the weather ... everyone knows the water issues from Table Rock to Shortoff.

That's all I can think of as points for the moment.
