I'm planning a section hike on the Tahoe Rim Trail between Echo Lake, CA and Barker Pass. It looks, from satellite images on Google Earth, like much of the trail is above the tree line. Has anybody hiked this section? If so, are there enough trees to hang a hammock, or should I give in and carry a tent and sleeping pad? Perhaps I should carry a sleeping pad and some lightweight poles and use the hammock on the ground if I can't find anywhere to tie up?

Thanks!
