From what I see on the USPS site, it should cost $10-$15 US, depending on the shipping option. I just dropped some tins in the recycle yesterday, trash pickup was this morning... I'll look and see what I have laying about...

I could always send full ones... hmmm... now what do I need from Austrailia?

Instead of altoids, you could buy some Penguin Mints - http://peppermints.com/

They come in the same kind of tin as altoids, but they are... wait for it....

    CAFFEINATED MINTS

Three mints is roughly equivalent to a can of coke. I consumed many tins of them when I was a graduate student - I'd buy them by the case.
