I saw the episode where he was stranded in the Kalahari Desert and he was discussing knots while fashioning a makeshift spear. He was using the same whipping knot we use on hammocks to secure some metal on the end of a stick to make his spear.

Maybe he is a hammock camper and we just don't know it.

I saw that one too and instantly thought about whipping a hammock end. I really can't wait to see the one with the hammock.

I saw the hammock episode last night. Pretty neat. He just cut out the material from the hot air balloon and used rope from the balloon. I think I even saw a carabiner on his hammock.

I also saw the hammock episode this weekend. His hammock resembled a DIY hammock that we would make here on the forums. Whipped the ends and everything. There was also one scene where the suspension system failed and dropped him on his butt.

a non-breathable hammock isn't ideal, but i think i would definitely choose that over being on the ground... especially in africa
I am sure he wishes he had one in Central America.

That's what I was thinking. That episode where he basically didn't sleep because the ground was literally moving with critters.
I wonder if the ants, etc. would have traveled on the suspension lines if he did have a hammock.

I didn't have that problem, but I don't see it stopping them. It was crazy to see pathways cut through the jungle by ants. Almost like their own AT.
