.. truly to enjoy bodily warmth, some small part of you must be cold, for there is no quality in this world that is not what it is merely by contrast. Nothing exists in itself. If you flatter yourself that you are all over comfortable, and have been so a long time, then you cannot be said to be comfortable any more. - Herman Melville
Make that "knives". I'm too ticked at myself to spellcheck.

OUCH!!!!
Is this a bad time to ask about your patch sewing and sealing abilities?????
Tom
I was using one at work. I had 2 table in the break room pushed together and was cutting out a quilt. I kept checking for the first couple feet and the formica table didn't burn. Then I pulled away the fabric to reveal that the second tabe wasn't made out of formica and you could clearly see the etched outline of my quilt. I rubbed chocolate in the scored mark and no one was the wiser.
The ohter method of using a candle to seal the edges was much scarier. Hope your material wasn't too expensive.

Well on a good note, its cauterized, and won't fray!
PS,don't drop the woodburner on your leg either
Ambulo tua ambulo.
It was cheapo wally-world sil for a free tarp for a buddy. He knows in advance not to be choosy. I'm thinking of doing a sharpie John Hancock on my patches (yes, there will be two).
If I drop it on my leg, at least the flesh won't fray, right?

Did the same thing right in the middle of the outer layer of my Minima vest (momentum fabric) while cutting it out. Of course it was not the inner layer that would have been easier to hide! Getting ready to start a new project and haven't decided if the hot knife is coming out yet.
And your right, your leg will not fray but healing is fun as both sides are nice and seared (not ask how I know)
I don't mean to steal you thunder at all, dropping in on your sil totally sucks.
But would that be a good way of cutting the fabric? Wouldn't it seal it and prevent any fraying?
I'm going to feel especially noobish that's what you were using it for in the first place...
Your correct Hanging Tom. The hot knife/soldering iron/wood burner works well, take a few practice runs on some scraps, first. Use a wood cutting board beneath the fabric to protect tables. I use a wood burner. Mine came with different tips, but the original tip works best. Burning fabric will alarm the Mrs., warn her first.
