    first tarp question.

I just received my first hammock and tarp, a blackbird and big mamba jamba tarp.

Stupid question, is the ridgeline seam reinforcements (the black tape thingy) supposedto be on the top/outside or the bottom/ inside of the tarp? does that make sense? or it doesnt matter?

I think it only matters when you try to attach the doors. I have set mine up both ways. However, the two rings in the middle of the black tape thingy are for the doors and not the ridge line. You will probably notice that they appear to be positioned 90 degrees out of orientation to the ridge line.

Why the big mamba over the Superfly? haha i really have no idea.

I think it was a poor attempt at stopping myself from always buying and thinking i need the biggest baddest xyz i can afford. I've been trying to force myself to cut weight a bit, which is the reason i went with the 1.1 double as well. My habit is/was to get the hammock that can hold the most weight and the tarp that can cover the most, you know just in case =P

that and i've read for some that they had to seam seal the pull out points on the superfly. While it may be a simple task and i don't mind doing mods myself, hammock camping is completely new to me and i'd rather not mess with things just yet.

This forum is great about helping noobies, i appreciate everyones help!

I Picked the big MJ over the Superfly because. Could get the Big MJ in Spinn fabric which is lighter. I didn't feel the SF was tha much bigger and kept reading reviews that said the Big MJ was "HUGE" so I figured big enough is big enough. I'm not doing winter camping with mine. If I were that may have changed m opinion.
