    A friend of mine started hiking the AT with his son when the boy was 12. Every year, he took two weeks of vacation and they hit the next section. This continued until the little 12 year old had grown into a 210 lb. 26 year old.
    That just strikes me as a great thing to do. I'd say go for it.
    He is your friend, your companion, your defender... he is your dog. You are his life, his leader, and master. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of that devotion.

    we have a father and son on HF that hike the trail '09 . i hung with them at the MA-NH border. can't remember the name???(Bill Slade?)
