Congrats!
I've been a happy DD Travel hammock user for over a year now. While none of the DD stuff I've seen really qualifies as "ultralight", it's comfortable, sturdy, and well-made. Also have the tarp and under-blanket... so long as weight isn't a major issue, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of it (and don't get me wrong, the stuff isn't made of lead... it's just heavy compared to some other choices. My DD setup is still lighter than any tent I've owned!)
I keep meaning to contact DD to ask if they've considered an ultralight line. I'd order a lighter, single-layer hammock with bugnet, and silnylon tarp from them in a heartbeat, if they just made it...
DD hammocks are somewhat of an oddball among hammocks in that they like to be hung "taut" rather than with the usual sag you see in camping hammocks. First time I camped with some HF members they were surprised that my tarp was attached higher on the tree than the hammock, but that's how it works, for me. Experiment and see what works for you, but keep this in mind.
PS I swapped out the included suspension for whoopie slings, saves some weight and makes setup and adjustments quicker and easier...
Enjoy that DD!!!
Congrats on the win!!!!!!
I'm a happy camper
Festus, everything you've said ties up with my experiences too, they aren't the lightest but they are very well made and they do like to be hung tight. I did ask on their facebook page if there are any plans for a lightweight sil tarp but no reply yet.
The only reason I did make my own kit was for when I really want to shave the weight off when backpacking, when I'm canoeing and weight isn't so much of an issue the DDs are great
Has anyone else been lucky in any of the DD giveaways?
Well done Col M, can't go wrong with DD, got the 09 Travel one and snugpak UB and quilt, great kit and the service is second to none. Enjoy it buddy.
Well done on winning the DD. I wish you hang well.
Tom
Lucky you!
I didn´t win, but I already got one so I´m not so disappointed...
