    Talcum powder...really?

The tube of Silnet says to use talcum powder. Can baby powder or cornstarch be substituted to eliminate the tackiness of a freshly seam sealed Silnylon tarp?

Baby powder is talcum powder with some perfume in it. Corn starch should work as well.

Perfume and corn may attract critters and bugs. But yea, either should work.
Did you let it dry for a day or two?

Don't use corn starch to treat monkey butt. But sticky tarps will probably not be a problem you are concerned about creepy crawlies getting into you gear closet. The corn starch might not be the best. It is after all food.

Not any more. A couple decades ago folks got all stirred up over asbestos in talc. For example, Johnson's Baby Powder is now mostly cornstarch.

When are you coming in again? I seem to have unremembered.

ZQ and I will be heading south early Thursday morning. We hope to get to the campground around noon, then buzz up to visit Slowhike in the afternoon. We will be a Pilot Mountain leaving there Monday morning.

Stop by if you can Sat or Sunday evening. We will be out hiking throughout the day but plan on a relaxing time around the campfire with anyone who wants to drop in.

I left my tarp drying for over 24 hours...it's still tacky.

So, is cornstarch talcum OK? Would it really attract critters?

Not sure what the OP decided on.
