    max patch

i'm planning a trip where i'm going to arrive at max patch -- that big parking lot -- AFTER DARK, so I'm hoping to get some advice since i won't see much when i get there. i'm going to get picked up by a shuttler the next morning at 6:30 am. anybody remember how far i'd have to walk north up max patch to get to a good hanging place? is it worth the walk for a sunrise moment before i hit the parking lot again... or should i just hang by the side of the road near the parking lot and not drive myself crazy.

    thanks!

It's been a while since I have been up there but if memory serves me correctly, there is no really good hanging areas along the AT on Max Patch. From the summit of Max Patch, I think you're about midway from potential hanging areas on the AT. I would think you'd be better off hanging near the parking area and walking up Max Patch early in the AM to catch that elusive sunrise .

Maybe someone else knows better ?

I was there last fall and agree. If you are heading north from the parking area, you'll have to go over the summit to reach some trees. Stealth hang near the parking area and pack your stove and some coffee up to Max Patch in the morning for a sunrise cuppa joe.

Couldnt tell you. My trip over "Max hell Patch" was last month with driving sleet from wind strong enough to push me sideways and visibilty enough to see the next post. That FAA tower was just barely visible kinda looked ominous when I turn around and it was just there. Never saw it while approaching it.

    Sorry
