What a great resource for us newbies

This is a great forum. Thanks to all who post all this wonderful information. It is amazingly useful.
My brother and I are about to test out our hammocks for the first time next weekend. Three days planned on the GA/SC border. We both picked up the ENO Double Nest with Slap Straps Pro. We already see some adjustments that are going to be necessary but know that will come with time and experience (and money).
Anyhow, just wanted to say thanks for all the great info being shared. I hope to be able to contribute as well.

Be sure to take some bottom insulation along... It is not that warm.

Enjoy! and welcome to the Hanging Gang!

Welcome to HF, have fun testing the gear out and gaining experience in the process. Becareful with the modifications, they generally lead to a lack of money!!!!!

Welcome to the forum from the Gulf Coast of Alabama.

I also have an ENO Doublenest and Pro Straps and really like it. You might want to also add a bug net...well worth it in the long run, in my opinion.

Welcome to the forums! Let us know how the slap straps work for you. Many on the forum think the are heavy and stretchy. Lots of other suspension options out there.

there is a learning curve.. fortunately it is not banana shaped!
try and notice what amount of sag(droopiness) makes for the most comfort; then you can add a ridgeline to make that point easier to find each time you set up! Have fun, KM

    1st night out

So I got to try out the Double Nest and Slap Straps last night in the back yard. I did get a chance to set up and test height on the hammock before last night. I am 6'3" and 265 lbs. With my hammock at eye level, when I got in I was about 10" off the ground. There is A LOT of give in those straps. I definitely need to try some different options, but will make due with what I have now. That is why I am glad to be a part of this forum.
I went to Wal-Mart last night and picked up a 9x12 5mil tarp as well as some fabric to use as a bug net. Using 550 as a guideline between the caribiners of the hammock I placed the fabric over it and attached with binder clips. They slid very well. One side I clipped directly to the hammock at the foot end.
I have a Big Agnes Skinny Fish bag with the inflatable pad. Temp got down to 58 and I slept covered only to my waist with shorts and t-shirt. I tend to stay warm anyhow. I can definitely see this is going to be addictive.

    Thanks everyone.

Welcome to HF! Awesome that you're already learning what works for you.

Here's another site that might help you figure things out:
