I've actually been curious, purely from a appearance-sense.

Does it affect the IX at all if it were dyed to be a color other than white? Obviously I'm more interested in the function than the appearance, if it affects any of the insulating properties at all, I wouldn't consider it, but if not, it'd be a nice option once I get mine

No one knows... IX will take fabric paint, so it will probably take a dye.

I have been unable to get IX to accept a dye. IX_dye.jpgAfter immersing the IX in the heated fabric dye solution, I could feel it's bouyant properties. The dye literally rolled off. IX_dye_dropets.jpgA small amount of dy adhered to some of the scrim corners and quilting thread.

Does the inserts for the underquilts and jerry chairs have the same darted "cup" shape or are they flat and just conform to the shape of the outer layer?

Yes. They are darted just like the basic UQ.
