A big thanks to Neo for again arranging another fine gathering of good folks and good food. The weather was superb. Bill and I arrived Saturday around noon to an empty camp, attractively decorated with a hammocks. I don't believe there was any duplication of hammock brands displayed, and I enjoyed an unhurried tour with no distractions.
We began our set up, knowing the breakfast crew would return any time. Within five minutes a cyclist pulled into camp, hungry for information about hammocks. Phillip lived nearby, and had been lurking on hammock forums for a few months. He was a sponge for information and likely will soon be a donating member and hammock owner. When I pulled out my suspension, he lit up; he knew what the Dutch Clip was! He was curious to see a whoopie sling. I felt so proud to be able to pass on information, having been the sponge the last time I was here. I was delighted to see Opie's toggles and rigging on Soldier Monkey's ridgeline and to see how light his webbing suspension was. Simple, lightweight elegance. Wow!
This hang was my maiden voyage for my new Insultex 5 in 1 Jerry Chair from Mac. Bigbamaguy helped me adjust the fit while Phillip obliged me by hanging in the Switchback. Darby and John just earned a new customer, unless I miss my bet. I love the Switchback and the Winter Dream Version 3, but I am still not sure on that insultex UQ yet. Mac's construction is bomb proof, but IX is just not the same type of warmth as down. It is a versatile piece of gear, with clear advantages. More experimenting and learning to use it to best advantage is in order. Bigbamaguy's three separate layers of insultex were appealing. Soon I will hope to have courage enough to try a DIY single layer UQ IX and TQ to add to my gear.
Neo was showing off a cool DD hammock and tarp. The hammock was too small for me, I suspect, but it sure looks like a good value if the fit is right.
Sounds like a good weekend!!!
I love pizza... maybe I'll get a chance to try out one of those "deep dutch oven" type pizzas one of these days!
I too will something make and joy in it's making
Sooooooooooooooo jealous!

Well I have made it home from the trip to MLP Hang. I had a great and wonderful time while I was there. I arrived around 7:30 pm saturday night and got everthing setup. Met soldiermonkey, lazyboy, tnhillbilly and "the boys". We sat around the fire friday night and had a wonderful conversation and came close to solving all of the worlds problems..........but we wrote nothing down so we have no proof!!!
Saturday started around 7 am and then it was to a breakfast that I had been looking forward to all week. I will admit that I ate too much and paid for it all day!!!!!! After we got back to camp a nap was brought up by the group but , soldiermonkey, lazyboy and mysef went for a "hike" down to the creek in the park. Later it turned into a wade down the creek. This was a wonderful hike with great scenery and some very foot soothing cold water. Around 5 pm the cooking preperations started. It looked like a military manuever with the way people were prepping all the food stuffs for cooking. The fire and coals were lit, the ovens were filled with wonderful recipies and concoctions. After about an hour and a half of waiting, grace was said and then we ate. We ate, does not describe what we did.......it was more like gorged ourselves until it was difficult to breath. Then the desert was served. I don't normally eat peach cobbler but this was wonderful. It was almost as good as the pizza but not quite. Turtlelady, what you made could only be compared to ambrosia. It was a delight and you will have to put on a seminar the next hang out on the preperation of this wonderful dish.
I have a wonderful weekend, met and made new friends and will be at the fall hang barring something along the lines of coming of the Four Horseman of the Apocolypse. Neo thanks for a great opportunity to meet and make new friends and thank you all for the words of encouragement in regards to the family matter that I will face this coming week. I appreciate the thoughts and do not have the words to describe its effects on me.
