Sure does. I've hung in all sorts of places and they are all good.

But what is you like to look for when you have a thousand places to pick from?

I agree, anywhere in the woods is perfect. But given a choice of places to hang, I'd like to see what's working for others and maybe modify what I'm doing.

I will also agree that I'll choose a view when I have the chance! FYI VanDeventer shelter just north of Hampton TN on the AT has great trees AND a view!

    I voted close & high.

Close being trees about 14' apart as minimum 16' being "optimal", this is to accommodate my 13.5' tarp. If NO chance of rain, I can come in to about 12'.

High being about waist high before getting in the hammock.

I"m about to change hammocks (to a longer one) & may need to change to close & low as I am going to try (yet again) putting more sag than I use now.
BUT, I may need to change to Far & high because I like my hammock with nearly no sag. Yes, I do know I am weird,,,,,, don't care.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

I didn't vote b/c I'm medium and medium. At least my definitions of medium and medium.

I hang at chair height. I like to be able to sit in the hammock like a normal chair to eat, put on my shoes, etc. If I lean back, my feet pop up off the ground and I can swing. If it's really cold I'll hang lower but I don't really like to. If there's too much underbrush or a stump or something, I'll hang higher. But I like to be chair height when I can.

I don't like trees that are really far apart. As long as they're far enough for my tarp, my hammock is comfortable underneath it...beyond that it doesn't really matter.

I really like it when there's a stump or rock right next to the hammock to use as a nightstand.

    I didn't vote either, I never know.

Sometimes I like to hang high, sometimes low. Distance between the trees doesn't bother me, whichever trees have the best view I suppose. Sometimes I really like hanging on a severe slope. Gotta be careful, really really careful, with stowing your gear, but it makes one kind of proud to know that the odds are very good that you're the first person to ever camp in that spot. My passive aggressive way of thumbing my nose at the rest of the world.

This is what I look for ideally, but you make "whatever" work when you have to.

I agree with HB ... ya do with what you have. I also like to hang low enough to reach out for "breakfast from the hammock" as Shug would say. Another function is tarp height. Lower in winter to get my hammock able to get closer to the ground.

BUT like Hanging Burrito said ... you kinda have to work with what you have.
