Looking for a "brown" or camo to make an under Quilt.
Should I use .9 or 1.1 ripstop ? (I am using 4-5oz climashield).
and what is "70 Denier Pure Finish Ripstop Nylon Fabric"
is that .9 or 1.1 ??
Thanks,
Nick

?????
.9 1.1 Climashield ?
lets start over ....first thing we need to know is what temps do you plan on
camping in ?
if you are looking at temps around 30 degrees i would say use Climashield 5.0
if you are looking at temps around 45 as the low then Climashield 2.5 will work...
to be on the safe side and for a solid 3 season UQ i would go with the Climashield 5.0
as for what type of ripstop to use 1.1 ripstop is fine ....
you can also get down pretty cheap from Stormcrow on the forums ....
he will pack it anyway you like ....and down is not hard at all to work with
hope this helps
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold
70 denier ripstop generally translates to 1.9 ripstop. The 1.1 usually would be in the range of 30 denier if I remember correctly. Denier is a measurement based on the thickness of the threads used to make the fabric. It is most often used in commercial applications where weight per se is not a meaningful statistic. Coatings and other treatments affect the weight of the finished fabric but they do not affect the denier rating.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

GLP,
sorry for the confussion I am using 4-5 oz Climashield (45-50 temps)
I was wondering if .9 or 1.1 ripstop was better, or what the 70 denier was?
Thanks,
Nick
5oz climashield will get most users down in the 30's ....
i think 5oz will be your best bet ...but for the temps you are looking at 45-50 2.5oz will work also...but i would stick with the 5oz just to be safe just in case you get a night where the temp drops around freezing you will be glad you have the little extra under you
Rev is dead on about the ripstop...1.1 uncoated will be your best bet for an UQ...
if you shop around you can find it for around the $6.50 range
synth quilts are not hard to make just take your time

You should check out Scott's fabric sale at Backwoods Daydreamer. I got some 1.1 in Olive but he also has it in Camo. It's considered second quality because it has two small lines down the center...I had a hard time finding it though. It feels great and you can't beat $2.75/yd for HF members.
