POLL: What type of suspension do you tie to trees with?

Anyone ever use one of these? Seems like it would be very convenient....especially when it comes time to release it. I'm currently just using half hitches but I like the idea of infinite and easy adjustability of some sort of buckle system.

Currently, I use the stock HH tree huggers and spectra. I'm seriously contemplating going to a strap and buckle system. I'm thinking I'll cut the spectra and tie a loop in it. the loop will go through a small loop sewn into a short piece of strap that has the buckle sewn into the other end of the short piece of strap. Then use a longer strap with a loop sewn into one end so it can be looped around the tree with the free end going to the buckle.

I think this will give a very quick set-up and even quicker adjustment. Just loop the straps around the tree, thread them through the buckles and tighten.

I think this is what Jeff has, he just uses Air Core Plus to attach the small section of strap with buckle to the hammock.

I have another idea that would be very quick for hammocks without a ridgeline. Use a single piece of strap, long enough to tie to both trees. Have loops tied into the strap at a distance that would create a ridge line. Then using a biner just clip it into the strap loop and a loop on the end of the hammock.

Adjusting the stock Hennessey straps is difficult at times so I use 4 feet of webbing and wrap it twice around the tree and tie it with a square knot, leaving just enough space to tuck the spectra through the space between the webbing and the tree...then it's the 4 wrap knot.

the webbing adds weight, but has other uses, like binding the hands and feet of my victi....never mind.....

i use the stock tree huggers and stock spectra line, but i run a biner through the huggers and then tie off to the biner... the biner's gate makes it really simple to do that figure 8 thing, and it comes off easily too.

i used to use some cheap aluminuminum biners, rated at about 300lbs each, and it worked just fine. but one day, i noticed a bit of 'stretch' in one of them, so i now use climbing biners, like this one.

I use 1/2 inch tubular climbing webbing. I tie an anchor to each tree by wrapping the webbing and finishing with a water knot. Then I clip each end of my hammock in with a caribiner. I will be posting some pics of my set up soon since I am newbie here. Although, I do have pics posted on the yahoo hammock camping group under Nate's Hammock.

I use 3/4" webbing (I think that's the size) as a ridge line, sometimes I tie with the Spear 4 knot, sometimes I use a figure 8, sometimes a combination of the 2.

Friday night (11/10/06): the head end was Spear style, but the foot end (a BIG tree) was all figure 8. No tree damage, I didn't fall.

I've got ENO slap straps, UL aluminum biners, 3/4 webbing and a slew of
fancy knots and things that have been tossed around here and at Rocks site.

But to be honest, the method I prefer most is stock HH BULA spectra cord with no tree huggers.

Simplest is often lightest. For myself I am trying to maintain a 5lb basic needs kit which consists
of complete shelter, sleep system to 0degF and pack. Right now I need to shave the weight of
a JRB weathershield (bottom) off my existing system. Can only mean upgrading to Hyperlite.

So for me personally. I sacrifice a little convenience in my speed of setup, but NOT in my tarp
coverage. Trying to go bare bones when it comes to suspension.
