DIY (Dye It Yourself) BWDD 1.1oz 2nds.

    For your amusement:

This was about 5 yards of Scott's Olive 1.1oz ripstop 2nds.

I used disperse dye, which really isn't ideal for nylon(but great for poly), and I didn't use enough, or probably let it set long enough.

In the end, after washing and rinsing (in hot water, and disperse isn't super color-fast), it still came out so deep emerald, it's near black. Two packs would have cut it, and obviously acid or lanaset dyes would have done the trick.

Just an FYI. If you don't like, olive, dye it. Just don't buy up all the fabric! ;P

JD, I've been thinking about running down this road..
Test it out, and report back in.
My biggest concern was it bleeding color out on to rest of my gear. Once it is washed and dried, does it seem colorfast? or does leach more color whenever it gets wet?
I thought a tie-died fabric would appeal to the camo crowd, some sub-dued colors. Brown, green, black?
    Then sil dip the fabric?
    Camo tarp?

I need to order some fabric...

Gargoyle, disperse dye isn't as color-fast as lanaset dye (which is hard to find, but the best for nylon), that being said, it wont bleed in regular temp (cold) water.

Lanaset dye should be color-fast even with hot water. I was able to find the disperse dye locally, so that's why I tested with it. The only way it will bleed from what I've seen though is in really hot water, so I wouldn't be to worried about it.

Here's a link to lanaset dye, which you'll notice is a slightly more involved process: http://www.paradisefibers.net/Produc...03&Click=22649

I'm impressed, and somewhat surprised - didn't expect the olive to take it that well. That came out really nice looking.

    Thanks for posting.

And I love the "DIY" knock off... clever!

    Thanks Scott!

The trick is in the technique with that stuff, due to it's high water resistance primarily. You've got to really work it for a few minutes in real hot water to get it to absorb anything.

I'm gonna order some lanaset dyes soon, I'll post the results when I get around to trying it.
