what's a ridgeline?

sorry for the dumb ?, but I just purchased an Eno - no ridgeline. so what am I missing? is a ridgeline just a rope stretched from head to foot?

thanks! When I put it up, I automatically stretched a line across. Seemed like the normal thing to do.

A ridgeline is nothing more than a line which keeps the distance between the ends of the hammock at a consistent distance from one hang to another. The sag of the hammock is vital to the comfort experienced. By installing a ridgeline you can help make that consistency possible without a lot of trial and error for each hang. A ridgeline is not mandatory... but it is helpful for many people.

When I used an ENO I didn't add a ridgeline. I did use an "accessory line", stretched between the trees so that I could hang stuff from it. Later it evolved into a ridgeline for my tarp, and still allowed me to hang a light from it. Then I found HF and found I wasn't the first to some up with the ideas!
