    Asym vs Non-Asym

    HI All,

Noobie here. I just ordered an ENO doublenest with the slapstraps and bugnet. I also just learned what an asym hammock was. Did I do the wrong thing? I know it's probably personal preference, but can you be real comfortable in a non-Asym vs an Asym? Thanks for the help all!

Sure - you just lay on the diagonal.

Without a doubt you can be real comfortable in a non-asym hammock. Just do what MikeN told you, lay diagonally. When you're diagonal in the hammock, the hammock IS an asym hammock. The hammocks that claim to be asymmetrical are that way because of tie-outs making the hammock asym without a body in it. I love my ENO and Trek Light hammocks and take them with some regularity to the woods with me.

Welcome to the Forums and cool name!

I currently have an ENO single and Have used it for over a year since I started Hammocking. It took some trail and error for me to get the right hang but once I did, I was able to get quite flat in it. Switching to a WBBB now for a couple reasons but I a keeping the ENO for day hile lounging!

Thanks for the help everyone. You’ve made me feel better about my purchase! I’ll let you know how my first hammock camping adventure goes. I usually camp in sub-zero weather so this will be new to me. I’ll also have to research about camping in very cold weather in a hammock. I can’t yet decipher how many people just don’t like to camp in the cold vs. how much colder it really gets without insulation/ground underneath you. Thanks again for your input!

What Cannibal said - the so-called asym hammocks are really rectangular pieces of fabric just like the non-asym.

Welcome aboard. Even if you like cold weather camping, under insulation is critical in a hammock. Even at ambient temps up to about 70F.

Camping in cold weather can be done - it just requires proper preparation. And to reiterate what Knotty said, unless it is very HOT out, you will need some insulation below the hammock.

    Welcome to HF!

Slept many nights in my eno double, both "Asym vs Non-Asym", & have been comfortable both ways. You'll find your' comfort zone through use. good luck.
