Warbonnent Traveler Bug Net Alternatives

I have no doubt that the bug net that Warbonnet has for their Travelers is high quality. However I would be bumping past my pre-set budget for a hammock+bug combo. Are there quality alternatives that work well for the Traveler?

You can go with the ENO bug net ... good prices on Amazon.com at times. However ... for weight, quality and the horizontal zipper ... I'd go with WB personally ... even if you have to wait. There are DIY options ... and I've made them myself but if you're going to buy ... Warbonnet would be my suggestion.

Make a bug sock. I think mine cost me about $8 to make.

I'm with Rock on this one. They aren't really that difficult to make, tedious would be a better word only because the netting is very stretchy.

But to your original question, you're talking about a difference of $10. Not much when you consider what you've already spent and nearly nothing when compared to what you will spend.

That $10 buys you a huge step-up in weight savings. I don't know any other gear choices where you can shave 8.5 oz for an extra $0.85 per ounce!

I may do that. My mom has a furniture store and has already offered to help me. I was going to DIY with my first hammock but fear stopped me. Less risk with a bug net.

look for nanoseeum (pricey) or wedding veil /chiffon material (much cheaper)

I didn't use actual bug net, I used some fabric called Tulle. I got it on the $2 a yard clearance rack. It's small enough for gnats, skeeters, and such but not noseeum sized. It was meant to be just a test mock up before I spend the money on some of that thru-hiker nanoseeum. I used 4 yards of 60" wide and it weights 2.47 ounces. The plan is in my gallery. I would imagine that using nanoseeum it would could out to about 4.7 ounces.
