    Knot instead of Fig 9

I bought a used OES tarp. It came with a Zingit continuous ridgeline. One end has a fixed loop. The other end is open. It has prussics for attaching the tarp.

So, one end I attach to the tree via the fixed loop by either passing the line though the loop or with a small carabiner. But for the other tree, I need to tie off the loose end after wrapping it around the tree. I've seen the use of figure 9's, but is there a good simple knot that I can use with this Zingit, instead? This stuff is so slick, my usual knots just fall apart.

A trucker's hitch will let you tension it nicely.

Another prussik and a marlin spike hitch will work too. Thats what I did.
You can use a trail stick as your toggle or carry one.

You can try a rolling hitch and it'll let you adjust your tension. If the line is too slick to be held by one just tie another one about an inch behind the first. http://www.animatedknots.com/rolling...ting/index.php

Salty if you can wait til later, i just solved your very problem with a nacrabiner. Im going to make avideo demonstrating how to make one like i made. It weighs less than a gram. I have a bowline on the end of my tarp ridgeline. I wrap it around tree one and secure it in the nacrabiner that is prussic'd on that end of the line. i then wrap around tree 2 and secure to small metal fig 9, videon tonight, just wait.

You will need the following materials:

    Sharp scissor/razorblade
    1.75/2.2mm zing it/lash it
    OR
    dynaglide
A bead with a hole big enough to put your desired line through
    a small splicing needle
    a lighter
    tape measure

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I tried the truckers and it worked like a charm. I'm looking forward to seeing the video, Ikemouser. Will you be wearing a shirt in this one?

    We use the same setup.

    Here's what I do:

    On the
    1. loop end: wrap tree and pull bight through loop, push stick through bight and pull bight tight.
    2. On the other end I have 3 Prussics (I use Penberthy Prussics for these, but regular Prussics work fine also, just use 4 wraps). Prussic #1 is positioned just before wrapping tree, Prussic #2 is positioned just after wrapping tree, bring back to Prussic #1 fold Prussic #1 loop around line and insert stick to capture line, bring Prussic #3 up to Prussic #1 and insert loop of Prussic #3 through loop of Prussic #2, insert stick in Prussic #3 loop and slide Prussic #2 and/or Prussic #3 to pull ridge line tight. You can use the stick in the Loop of Prussic #3 as a handle to pull line tight.

The Prussics at the second tree form a Truckers Hitch arrangement and enable you to pull the ridge line as tight as you please.

It is harder to describe the arrangement and it's use than it is to simply do it. Doing it is very easy and simple. The cord for the Prussics that I use are about 0.04 oz which compares favorably to the 0.14 oz of even the small Figure 9. I use 1.75 mm Lash-It/Zing-It for both the ridge line and the Prussic cords. Using the regular Prussic I need 4 wraps to get a good grip.

I've thought about using a small (very small) nacrabiner at Prussic #1 to capture the line, but haven't bothered yet since using the stick is so simple. May try a nacrabiner of the 1.75 mm Lash-It yet though.
