    Thinking out loud...

Also, I'm working with what I've got. This past weekend I realized the stock HH tarp is a little small.. especially for nasty summer thunderstorms.

So what I'm thinking is I have available a USGI poncho. Now, in it's own right it's not enough coverage for a hammock. However, with the stock HH tarp, this in addition could provide extended coverage. The HH could ride higher towards the head area, while the poncho could ride towards the foot area. It would effectively make a "cat cut" tarp or rather double diamond design. Any thoughts? Yes, I could purchase a nice larger tarp, but I'm trying to make due with what I have currently. Thanks.

That sounds like a good idea. Go for it. Let us know how it works out.

The trick is finding a way to overlap them that prevents leaking at the point where they overlap.

I've considered doing something similar with two tarps, but having the overlap run along the direction of the ridgeline, so it would be easier to fold one tarp over the other to prevent leaks.

I think gravety is all you need if your design is right.

    .
===Try "Grip Clips". I just picked-up 20 of them in case I take more than one tarp for any reason. Can also be used to guy the hammock out if wanted. Ingenious little devices that do not require the fabric to be punctured.

I have the same problem as you, tarp is to small for my liking, and I don't have the extra dough to get a larger tarp right now. If it does work out let me now so I can give it a go.

Well, I had modified my poncho some time back with grommets. Tying the guylines to these I could see them wanting to seperate from the poncho. Interesting though, the USGI poncho covers approx the same as the std HH Assym.

===> I am waiting for the HH Camo Hex Fly to arrive in the mail, and may take the original (smaller) fly with me as well to provide additional overhead coverage somehow. Or maybe close-up one end of the set-up. Whatever - the Grip CLips weigh nothing, and can be added simply anyplace on the fabric without harm ... so both flys may just be the ticket!
