    Tempco?

Does anybody know anything about Tempco sleeping bags? I went garage sale shopping yesterday and got a seemingly nice down mummy bag for 10 bucks. But I was wondering if anybody knows anything about them.

Also, are there any advantages of modifying mummy bags to be topquilts?

I think most people just use the mummy bag unzipped as a quilt. If you find the bag too restrictive, or if the zipper is short, then its useful to mod the bag. I did a bag with a very short zipper, shaves a couple ounces off the weight and have been quite pleased with the result.

Don't know anything about that brand of bag, but I have modified at least two brand new sleeping bags (BA Horse Thief) into top quilts & I like it.
It saves weight & bulk, as well as reducing possible damage to the hammock by laying on the zipper & pressing it into the hammock.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

The main reason I dont want to mod it is in case I want to use it as a sleeping bag at some point -- not nearly as warm if you can't zip it up
