Nice video Mac, always nice to see the Linville Gorge. MM, he's a smart man and those poles are interesting.

I gotta hike with MedicineMan .... I really am interested in all the plants. that is one of my weak spots .... not knowing. Which would be palatable with frog legs.....
Terrific to see some Gorge this morn.

Shug, the opening shot of Part 1 is taken from a rock on the south end of Shortoff. I figured it was what you couldn't see when you hiked in the clouds. Of course, you've seen it before. It is magnificent, a view right up the gorge from one end nearly to the other, available nowhere else.

It almost looks like Pitchin and the spur ridge on the north end of Shortoff very nearly diverted the Linville River out through Chimney Gap a few million years ago... but they were overcome. Can you imagine that entire gorge filled with rock, the falls located at the south end of Shortoff, a 14 mile long, high valley to the north, looking like the area around the 183 bridge? It's a grand scale, and timeless.

Mac you might want to check your YouTube Channel and see if you have a message. Still showing processing and that's been a lot longer than normal. Might have a glitch in your upload.

WARNING: Will discuss Rhurbarb Strawberry Pie and Livermush at random.

I have My Videos open, and it's still showing "Uploaded (processing, please wait)" ... I'll post something as soon as it's done messing with it.

Medicineman, I enjoyed watching you talk about edibles. That's a favorite subject of mine. I wasn't aware greenbriar was edible. It's eaten my legs enough--I can't wait to get my revenge.

I'm sure you know about oxalis or wood sorrel. Like sassafras, I think it is a really nice mouth freshener on the trail. I was friends with a biologist in college, and she was great about pointing out edibles.

No discussion of edibles would be complete without mentioning ramps.

Next time, I'll post Part 2 in a separate thread after it is done processing. I could have hiked back to the Watertree in the time it takes YouTube to process a video!

    EDIT:

I feel bad about Part 2 being unavailable... rookie mistake. Anyway, if I may say so myself, it is well worth the wait!

Hawk-eye and I are off to eat BBQ for lunch, so we'll check again afterwards!
