Hennessy Side zip, larger rain fly-a good buy?

    Hey all,
I am new to hammocking and looking for my first setup. I want to get it right
the first time so does anyone have some advice? I keep hearing that the bottom entry on the HH and small fly were some tradeoffs of the brand. I see now on the site though that they offer a side zip and larger fly for same price! Any thoughts? And to bring it up again (Sorry hah), I am also looking at the Warbonnet BB. I keep hearing its pretty sweet but is it that much more comfy than the HH? And is it worth it when the HH comes with the tarp?
I am looking for comfort, and I hear good things from both parties, but that foot pocket looks very tempting in the BB. I do plan on using my sleeping pad which I already have, and am looking for a full setup so I can get out there and enjoy. Thanks everyone for taking the time, Cheers!

Oh yeah, if I get the go-ahead on a BB instead of a Hennessy, any good ideas on tarps for not too much $$$? Thanks!

I have a HH with a 2QZQ zipper mod. AND the larger HH rain fly.
The zip mod was a great addition to my hammocking pleasure.
I will be going out in my HH this weekend...I hope my back allows....
Comes down to $. What I know now...
I'd buy a WBBB and a large tarp from WB....
I't the CADILLAC of hammocks....When CADILLAC meant something...
Start your hammocking journey in style...why not?

ACTUALLY I'd MAKE MY OWN Hammock and tarp but that wasn't in the choices presented.

    BUT
you really can't make your own hammock or tarp till you have experience to see what it is you want in a hammock or tarp...

Go with the WBBB AND a WB tarp. I think there's a rebate....

I had both, I sold the BBWB and kept the HH explorer deluxe - (Then again I'm a little different from many of the others on here). My HH is roomy, comfortable and came with the side zipper and no bottom entry, the large Hex and snake skins all thrown in.

We have four now, the Mrs, and my two sons all love hanging out, living here in Vancouver the outdoors are within an hour drive or 40 mins on the boat and we are truly in the wilderness and slap bang in the middle of Gods country....

Google up some stuff on the Chinook tarps if you're looking to keep your weight down and be cost effective:

    small one: http://www.rusticsportsman.com/servl...AApwAAAOf4FQA=

    Big one: http://www.rusticsportsman.com/servl...C-Green/Detail

But if you just want cheap and don't care about weight go to any of your box stores and just buy a blue waterproof tarp. I got one on sale from Harbor Freight for $5, 11'x14'.

I think both the HH side zip with the larger tarp and the Warbonnet are good options. It's just a matter of how much you want to spend.

What Knotty said x 2, with one exception: I haven't tried Hennessy's own version of the side zip model, my experience is based on an HH with the 2QZQ mod.

Hey thanks for the help guys! I actually just ordered a BB and going to
order a chinook tarp-about same price since I was going to go for the deluxe model in HH anyways. Appreciate the help!

Right now I have the non-zip Expidition, and am upgrading the the Explorer with side zip (The Exped is just a tad too small for me). I also spring for the silnylon hex tarp. The tarp is a great idea. If you by the larger hammocks from Hennessy, such as the Explorer, Safari or Deep Jungle, you can substitute the PU coated nylon tarp for no cost (you just add it to the comments section on the order form). The silnylon can be substituted for the standard tarp for the difference in price (about 70 bucks?).

The larger hex fly is definitely worth it. I bought the silnylon. I have used it on one weekend trip so far, and it makes a big difference over the stock tarp.
