My sons and I had been wanting to do a quick day trip to the Linville Gorge to try out a new Osprey Jib pack for my youngest son, Elliott. It passed with flying colors.
Near 100% humidity made for a very wet hike, but the cool breezes on the summit of Hawksbill quickly dried us out, and the views were certainly worth the sweat.
We never made it down into the big ditch, staying on top this time around. We had to get over to see Shirley at Famous Louise's. She set us up with a jelly sampler (good move), and we came home with three jars -- souvenirs for Momma. When Momma sees these pictures, I'm dead meat! Gotta have a little adventure, and it's not nearly as bad as it looks.
We had a great time, and I can't wait until this fall for the big hang. I hope you enjoy the pics. Check out the heart-shaped lichen. We don't lichen the Gorge, we LOVE the Gorge.
