    sleeping bag in a hammock??????????

I've tried to use a "fleece" sleeping bag in my hammock (ENO ProNest) and I find it is impossible to get the bag to lay in the hammock so I can get in/out as I would on the ground.
What's the trick to using a sleeping bag in a hammock?
Do you get in the bag, then get in the hammock?

I just have the bag bunched in the bottom of the hammock, stick my feet in and use just my arms to pull it under me. It should be slick and slide against the nylon. Don't shimmy to it, shimmy it to you. You'll be fine. I personally don't mind the combo.

My sleeping bag doesn't unzip completely as in it doesn't fold open to a rectangle. I unzip it as far as it will go and then use it like a blanket with my feet inside the "foot box" so it doesn't ride up of move around.

I can get in my bag by squirming around for a half hour. Generally though I use the bag like a quilt. You should have somethng under you anyhow. Other optios would be to get a sleeping bag you can walk around in like teh wallcreeper.

I use my sleeping bag like a quilt with a footbox. My mummy-style sleeping bag has a full zipper. So I keep it zipped to 15 inches and slip my feet into it -- with the zipper facing down -- not to the side. Then I use it quilt mode, simply tucking the sides underneath me when it's cold and pulling hood over top of my head. When it's warmer out, I don't tuck the sides of my bag and I fold the hood part down inside the bag to keep it out of the way. You will need a pad or underquilt to keep warm from underneath when using it in quilt mode.

If you have a top loader ... you can unzip it and lay it in place ... then just lay in it and bring the zip up. Of course the easiest way is like Dutch & Happycamper say ... just use it as an TQ.

If a HH ... sit in the opening put your feet in it (have a ground cloth) and bring it up around you. Then bring it up around you and sit back down. Then a little wiggle back and you're in. It's easier than it sounds.

A fleece sleeping bag is going to be a bear to use in a hammock. The fleece doesn't slide like a nylon bag so you're fighting too much friction.

When using a bag in a hammock, I basically do what Dutch does and treat it like a top quilt. Zipper it wide open lay it over you.

I returned to backpacking some years ago after a decades long layoff. At the same time I learned about UL and hammocks. One of the things I read about that had the most impact was the issue of wrestling with a sleeping bag in a hammock. So I incorporated my cold weather clothing into my sleep system and, from the very start, I've never used a bag in a hammock (except once as a quilt). That concept isn't for everyone or, at the least, not everyone wants to consider it or give it a try. But depending on who, where and when you are the idea works quite well.

I have used a rectangular bag for years now. I find the extra room in the footbox necessary. Mummy bags footboxes are so restrictive I feel uncomfortable. I open the bag right up, and use it as a quilt (I do that in a tent to, to tell the truth). I then lay on a Termarest Prolite 2/3 length pad. I find it very comfy.

I use the rectangular bag as well, My feet get claustrophobic otherwise.
I lay it in a little higher at the head end, keep it zipped about 6 in.
sit down and pivot into it... No problems..
