    Knotless Prussic/Nacrabiner

    Knotless prussic

After seeing all of these splicing creations, it occurred to me that you could make a knotless prussic type device pretty easily. The thought occurred to me on my drive in to work so I've not yet made one but I wanted to see what you all thought.

Make a nacrabiner/loop shackle in the way that Opie showed (the small spliced loop and the longer single strand before the stopper knot) but rather than using that longer single strand to tie a prussic, you could "bury" your tarp's ridgeline through that strand, rather than having a prussic knot there. I think you would lose less vertical distance from your ridgeline to the tarp's tie out, meaning that you would not have to raise your tarp tie out quite as high.

What do you guys think? Does my poorly worded description make sense?

    Interesting.

Intial thoughts are you still need the knotted end to close the biner. This places pull pull on the bury fine on one side but pulls the opposite side 180 degrees in the other direction. Not sure how well that would work.

That's assuming I'm understanding your description.

Are you saying that rather having a prussic loop on the ridgeline, the loop would be buried and built into the ridgeline itself?

Odds... yes that's what I was trying to say. well said.

Opie... I have that concern too. I'll have to make one and give it a try later. Even if it works it won't be as flexible as a standard prussic (since you can't easily remove it). I'd still give it a try though. I think that the way whoopie slings work is so ingenious and elegant and works so well.

Mun, I like the idea. Still trying to wrap my mind around a way to make it work.

A fixed loop with a backsplice on the other end and then bury the main line of the RL in between the fixed loop and backsplice would work like a ucr.

You would then need a toggle or some other attachment to your tarp.

You could larkshead the fixed eye to your tarp before burying the main line.

There would be minimum length between trees so as not to have the bury bend around the tree is that right? Or the tarp ridegline can be adjusted and then wrapped around the tree but that would negate the adjustability.

I think you lost me a bit there. The bury would only be on a short loop of cord that could slide up or down the entire length of the ridgeline. it would slide up or down to move the connetion point of the tarp to the ridgeline.

I need a picture to get this. However, I love the creativity and that is one of the reasons I love HF. Built my first nacra prusics last night out of 1.75 Zing-it. I was proud of that. Maybe I will wait on this thread before I re-rig my tarp.
