I'd like to make another go of it, but I don't think that I have enough material for a third try if a second attempt isn't successful. I bought this material about 3 years ago and had it hanging around without much use outside of the occasional stuff sack and a couple BB Sacks. I'd really like to be able to get a Jerry Chair out of it if I can, but my thread injecting skills just aren't up to par to make it happen.
LOL! This EXACTLY describes my first attempt at DIY sewing. I also tried the jerry chair and ended up with one that's probably usable but very ugly. I gave up and just ordered a 5 in 1 from Mac. <g>

There is going to be a lot of stress on the pockets. I first Tyvek Jerry Chair did tear out at the pockets. When first sitting down on it make sure the material is not pulled too tight and that will put a lot of stress on it. And you're no little fellow so I know you can put a crap load of stress on it!

Just had to get my "Crap" line in there too.

I think he said it was similar to or actually awning material he had laying around.

I just made one from Jerry's pattern out of some coated polyester digital camo from WM. The fabric weighs about 3 oz per SY which is kind of heavy but despite my limited and rudimentary sewing skills the fabric held up during the John Rock trip. At $1.50 / yd that coated camo fabric is great for a Jerry chair.

Yes, he did make the original one out of awning material. I just sewed my first one up this past weekend. I decided to use 1.9 ounce uncoated ripstop nylon BUT I doubled the material in the pocket area because of concerns with stress.

No field tests yet; but in my living room there doesn't appear to be too much stress on the material.
