Is BA Aircore ok to use with my WB BB 1.7dbl

So I ordered my first hammock today. I'm so excited. Ordered a WB BB dbl 1.7.

Since I've always been a ground dweller, the only pads I have are a BA 25x78 insulated aircore and a BA 20x72 standard aircore.

I didn't buy a tarp yet since I'm want to try it first before I buy everything. I figured I'd do a shake down cruise at my house in nice weather to see if it's a keeper.

If I use one of these pads, would you consider this fair to use for my first test or will I get an invalid first impression?

Since it's summer, no pad would be an option. I just want to make sure I give it a fair chance.

    thanks.

BigEarth, that's how I started. It works fine. Just let about half the air out, so it isn't stiff. You won't get quite as smooth of a lay as with an underquilt, but it works fine. It will also tend to hold open the foot box more than normal and spread apart the hammock. Those aren't necessarily bad things, especially in hot weather, since it allows a little more airflow inside the hammock. When it is this hot (90's here in NC), I don't need anything...but air conditioning...that would be nice.

I find a pad, and especially a slippery inflatable pad, uncomfortable in a hammock. If you need bottom insulation, use a fleece blanket. Just put it under you in the hammock. A windbreaker will work also (I like my mountain hardwear windstopper jacket under me in warm weather).

I have used a BA with satisfactory results. I would echo Salty's advice to not inflate it all the way. Till your fully sold on hammock hanging your BA pads will serve you well. When the hammock bug bites you hard. You will at some point start experimenting with other options.

After reading the reply's I wonder if I have a fundamental misunderstanding.

Does putting a pad under you act as comfort or do people only do it for insulation? Maybe it's just a taste thing.

I get the whole under quilt thing.

Most all of us start with pads. It is for insulation although there are a few on here who say their comfort is increased with a pad. We all have our own groove.
All I can add is that "once you go UQ your wonder why you waited or resisted".
Start out with your BA and remember that a good hang takes a wee bit of trial and error.
Most of us on here enjoy that part......

I expect the insulated pad will be a better choice than the one without insulation when temperatures start dropping. For summer temps (generally 50+ degrees), the uninsulated is probably OK. Figuring what works for you is the "trial and error" part!!

I tried to make a standard pad (NeoAir) work for me when I started, first the regular (20" width) and then the large (25" width). The wide is better for me because I'm "large"...6'5"...but with any pad, my shoulders are up against the hammock sides and thus get cold.

One of the biggest selling points for an UQ is that it is wraparound insulation.

ok got it. I'm a bigger guy too 6'3" so I'll try my big one first.

That L BA insolated AC is heavy 36oz. I was hoping to get rid of it with this setup, maybe I'll be able to trade it for a lighter UQ later.

I've watched your other video's Shug. I'll check this one out. Thanks.
