    mojave hangin

This is a little how - to and story all in one. The year 1991, place Ft Irwin, Ca Mojave desert ( in case you didnt guess). While packing gear for the month long training exercise. I put my hammock in my ruck everyone was asking how I planned to use it since there are no trees there and they told me I sure didnt want to carry rock anchors with me. I said you wait and see If I have time there is always a way. Well the first 10 days were hell I never had time to even sit down hardly. About half way thru we were have a 2 day down time(basicly sit in the hot desert sand for hours on in). I decided this was time to hang ( no more ants and sorpions in my butt crack). So I started stacking rock togather 3 wide for hanging from I got the rocks up to waist high tied off my hammock to the outside rock then processed stacking more rocks. I stacked rocks to head high the stuck my poncho across the top rocks. I wasnt very high off the ground but I was off the ground.
So the moral is never think you have to do something, just because others say it cannt be done. It never been done so how do you know it cannt be done. The only rule to survivialin is NEVER GIVE UP!

I couldn't have said it better myself! I'm pretty sure I will find myself quoting that when talking to others. Thanks for the trip report.
