Arrow My Hammock Stuff Sack/Pillow Combo

Here's an idea I came up with while sewing some straps tonight. Don't laugh.

I present to you the silnylon-fleece-lined-hammock-stuff-sack-pillow-combo. I call it SFLHSSPC for short. Catchy name, huh?

What I did was sew a fleece liner into a silnylon stuff sack. With the silnylon side out it operates as a water resistant stuff sack for my Speer-style hammock:

Call me a wussy if you want, but I like having a pillow at night. After setting up camp simply turn sack inside out, stuff with clothing, empty gear bags, etc, and I have a fleece pillow on which to rest my head at night:

I have thought of other uses. I use a Press-Bot to make coffe while camping. I have been looking for something to help keep my coffee warmer for longer. Enter the SFLHSSPC. You could also fill a Nalgene bottle with hot water and insert it into the SFLHSSPC, fleece side out, for a bag warmer on those cold nights. It would also function as cozy for your meals.

It came out a little smaller than I had planned. I used a 12x12 piece of fleece and a 12x16 piece of silnylon and made a basic stuff sack, folding over the top for a cord. I am going to make one big enough to hold a hammock, straps, and biners next.

Sweet! Kinda like the Thermarest stuff sack I looked at a while ago. I like having my hammock sack attached to the hammock - and my underquilt will go in there too - but I might make one of those for my overquilt or my clothes bag...

    Nice job!

That's a great project. I found a ThermaRest bag like that at the REI member sale a while back...definitely worth the extra weight in my pack. I use it for clothes during the day. If I'm wearing all of my clothes at night I'll put my soft-sided Nalgene in there for a pillow.

Nice idea. The more I read about everyones homemade gear the more I got to get me a sewing machine. I just wish i could get to the bottom of my gear buying list quicker. The sewing machine is at the bottom

Move the machine to the top and you'll get to the rest of your list much cheaper. And maybe even quicker.

great idea! Im guessing the fleece would wick any moisture away?
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Not sure about all the moisture but I never have a problem with it on my thermarest version.

That sure beats my Climashield hot/cold pillow... One side is cool nylon, the other warm fleece... It's a unitasker. It might get replaced...
